Hello, I’m Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Wednesday, October 3, 2007.

Britney Spears’ lawyer is revealing why she lost custody of her kids. He tells People magazine she was caught driving without a valid license and is also accused of not taking the random drug and alcohol tests ordered by the judge. Spears has been ordered to give up her two sons to her ex Kevin Federline for now. The pop star reportedly told a close friend she’s optimistic that she’ll get them back soon if she follows the judge’s orders.

Many Miley Cyrus fans are disappointed after missing out on tickets to the star’s upcoming concert tour. All 54 of her upcoming shows around the U.S. have already sold out. The “Hannah Montana Star” is set to head on her “Best of Both World” tour later this month. Many re-sellers have reportedly picked up several tickets and plan to sell them online for up to 15 times more than they are valued.

Actress Jane Seymour is taking a break from “Dancing with the Stars” to mourn the death of her mother. Her Mom died yesterday morning from complications following a stroke earlier this year. She was 92. Seymour, known for her role on “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman,” said she was doing the dancing reality show because it was her mom’s favorite.

Actors William H. Macy and Cheryl Hines are signing on for a new teen comedy. They’re set to play the parents in the film “Bart Got a Room.” It’s about a nerdy high school student trying to get a date to the prom. It’s set to come out sometime next year. Macy is known for his roles in “Fargo” and recently “Wild Hogs.” Hines co-stars with Larry David in HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Actor Jude Law and Michael Caine are preparing for the release of their new thriller. The stars attended the premiere of their new film “Sleuth” in New York yesterday. The director of the film Kenneth Branagh also attended the event. The film is a remake of a 1972 film about a writer who’s visited by a younger actor who’s having an affair with his wife. It hits most theaters October 11.

That’s all for now. Check out part 2 of our special Abandoned Babies series on upi.com.

Feckless Fathers

If we accept what the researchers are trying to tell us about ‘feckless fathers’, that they are struggling to sustain ‘intimate and fulfilling relationship with their children’ why are they the source of constant criticism?

My close friend recently died. She had full custody of her daughter and lived in a different state than her ex-husband. He literally spirited the child away from the funeral, signed her out of the school she was attending and took her to live with him and his fiancee. Someone who took some law courses told me that he is not legally entitled to remove the child from her natural environment in such a sudden fashion, even if he is her biological father. She lived with her mother, grandmother, and other extended family. I’m not sure. I’d like to know what the family’s options are because my friend specifically expressed that she wanted her mother and sister to raise the child ( who is 12) and not the husband because he was irresponsible, refused to work after the divorce and never paid child support. He was several thousands in arrears. Does the family have any legal recourse, or is this a done deal since the court will favor the only living parent? Serious, knowledgeable, polite responses only please.

I’m very sorry but the person with whom you spoke is wrong. Unless the grandmother (or extended family) was in a real sense a legal guardian the biological father can take the child into his custody upon the death or incapacitation of the custodial parent unless there is an order by which he is only to have supervised visits for some reason of real harm to the child. They can go to court and try to get visitation but his deadbeat status doesn’t negate the fact that he’s the child’s biological father.

I live in Virginia, I was told by a friend of mine that if we get joint custody of our kids that my ex husband won’t have to pay any child support…Is that true? Even if the kids live with me and only visit him? How is that fair? If you live in Va. and know anything about this, please help me. Thanks

Joint custody just means they both parents are responsbile for the day to day well being of the children, Its also known as shared parenting.

However, if the children reside with their mother, and only have visits with thier father, then yes he will need to provide child support for the chidlren living expenses etc…

The only way that he wouldnt have to pay child support is if they went week about with the childrens living arrnagemensts, eg: a week with him then a week with their mum …but this is not usual because it can upset the kids being shifted around like that.

So the short answer is yes , he will still have to pay child support.

she has dual citizenship and wants to stay in canada, he came out on a bunac visa, 3 months ago still not working, now hes saying he wants to go back to england and take her and baby with him, she doesnt want to go, but if she did give it a try would she be able to return to canada without permission from him? Thank you for your replies.

I don’t know!
