what is the legal age a child can change custody agreement in California?

We have 50% custody of my step son and I am wondering at what age he can legally decide to change the custody agreement to spend more time with one parent?

You are confused. The child doesn’t change anything, one of the parents has to file and then the child can tell the Judge whom they would rather live with. That age depends on the Judge, it is usually between 12-14 when the court thinks they have a right to an opinion in their own whereabouts.
