Helping keep you informed on Parent Custody issues….

My soon to be ex lives in florida and florida court started a time sharing plan. 3 weeks with me and 3 weeks with her father. she was born in NC. What do I need to do BY MYSELF to file something in NC to change jurisdiction an start a case in NC???
I absolutely can not afford an attorney or receive legal aid since in this area they do not touch child custody cases.

If Florida has jurisdiction, that means you moved the child away from there, and her father, within the last six months. It doesn’t matter where she was born. You will need an attorney or move back.

You cannot. The Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction And Enforcement Act, which has been adopted by both NC and FL, provides that the court that made the original custody determination maintains jurisdiction until the child does not have a significant connection to the state or the child and both parents no longer live in the state.
