Henry Louis Gates’ Lawyer: “Of Course, He’s Angry”
Charles Ogletree, the attorney who represents arrested Professor Henry Louis Gates, says that his client did nothing wrong, and said that because he was still taken into police custody despite giving two forms of identification for his house: “Of course, he’s angry.” “I can’t imagine many people wouldn’t be disappointed” if they were in the same situation, he says.
He adds Sgt. James Crowley “exercised bad judgment.”

Am I the only one …
Am I the only one scratching my head saying how does someone own a home in a community and teaches there and the neighbors are not able to recognize his vehicle his image. Gates overacted as any American would have regardless of his color. Again the movie Crash depicted the true racist in all of us and that is why so many are coming up with arguments and excuses.

I think this is an …
I think this is an abuse of power, however, The lady on the phone who called in that there was someone breaking in says she never said it was a black man, so why did officer Crowley write that she DID say that in his report?
I want to wait until more information comes out because we are just getting bits and pieces.

The white officer teaches anti-racism classes. he of all ppl would never be racist to gates. gates should have been thankful that someone came to his house to see if there was a burglar

Move on and stop popping the vains in your neck about this story. As for the people who are calling blacks “niggers” on here. You embarass me as a white man. Please go back to your room and worship that Hitler poster you have up.

No, you got it …
No, you got it backwards. Many blacks take advantage and abuse their racial minority status by claiming racism and there is little whites can do to defend against such claims, even if race has nothing to do with it.

Yeah seems the President tried that one already, and look how that turned out for him? In any case; here’s a vid from someone who has a VERY good take on the issues:

Police abuse power. That’s what this is about. Racist cops abuse their power over minorities, but the actions are still the same. Stop looking for a conspiracy.

Like the police …
Like the police entering without permission? Asking him to step outside without just reasoning. Then arresting him the second he did so? Charging him with a blanket charge that is based in personal perception only to be dropped later. This is police abusing power to make a quota. Not about race, just police acting “stupidly”.

Who cares, since obamacare is on the same level as vampires, werewolves and zombies. They don’t exist, and neither does “obamacare”. My proof? If Clinton won the nomination and the election, it would be called “clintoncare”

I filed a formal …
I filed a formal complaint against Sgt James Crowley on July 10, 2008, for repetedly threatening me with false arrest on trumped up charges. After meeting with Commissioner Haas, who directed Superintendent Stephen Williams to help me file the complaint, I did express concern that it would be whitewashed.
I told Haas that I feared if he didn’t get Crowley under control, he would keep doing this, and eventually do it to the wrong man.
The City has a problem respecting civil rights of folks.

Of course the police did not drop the charges…The issue is the police should have left as soon as they saw Gates ID, PERIOD! End of discussion.
Now the discussion should move to reforming “Disorderly Conduct” statutes across this country so that cops can’t use it as a means of leveling a score against any citizen they want.
The days of police acting as professional officers of the government are long gone. Now we see cops making encounters with people personal and not professional.

dogstar7: “You are determined to put this nonsense at the feet of Obama, eh?”
Nooo, I was simply stating the clear, undeniable fact. Nonetheless, considering that a Rasmussen report released today reveals that 53% of American voters oppose Obamacare, down 9 points from last month. It’s plain as day who is winning the public opinion battle.
Good luck with the latter.

dogstar7: “The Race Discussion this weekend is a diversion from the Real National Debate: Health Care”
Again I agree, albeit I do not believe the GOP or Democrats had anything to do with bringing the Gates matter to the national forefront. To blame this on anyone but Obama is simply foolish, a childlike argument that belays the clear facts EVERYONE witnessed.
At long last, Obama screwed up by taking on the Gates matter. But we’ll all get over it sooner than later.

I’ve already …
I’ve already discussed the Blue Dog strategy. They didn’t toss Prof. Gates in the President’s face. They aren’t committed to making Health Care Obama’s “Waterloo”. It is not the Blue Dogs who are making Obama the issue when the debate should be about Health Care.
The Race Discussion this weekend is a diversion from the Real National Debate: Health Care

dogstar7: “Derailing the public discussion and shifting to this moribund shouting match about Gates and Crowley is precisely what GOP strategists called for when they mentioned tossing `the kitchen sink’ at Obama.”
Nonsense, that is simply not in the GOP’s best interest when the Democrats (Blue Dogs) are revolting — for whatever reasons. Politically it is better for the Republicans to step aside and let the nation watch the Dems go at it.
