“I’m Not A Terroist!” Mother of 3 Dies at Airport!
“I’m Not A Terroist!” Mother of 3 Dies at Airport! Police explain 7 unedited CCTV. The husband of Carol Anne Gotbaum, the woman who died in police custody at a Phoenix airport, says a little kindness might have saved her life. If “one single person at that airport had put an arm around her shoulder, sat her down and given her some protection, she might still be with us today,” Noah Gotbaum said at her funeral. The incidence of police brutality in the U.S. has been on the steady rise since 9/11. Carol Gotbaum, mother of three very young children, died while shackled and handcuffed in a holding cell at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX). Her body had many bruises from being pinned to the floor. She arrived at the gate one minute after boarding was closed, and was not allowed to board. This is not what upset her, it was the fact she was not allowed to get on the next flight to Tucson . a man offered to give up his seat on that flight for her, but officials told her he could not do that because it would be considered a security breach!
Mesa Air Group spokesman Paul Skellon declined to comment on Wednesday. Mesa Air Group operates the US Airways Express flight to Tucson under contract with US Airways.
On Sunday, hundreds of mourners gathered to remember Carol Gotbaum.
Rabbi Robert Levine appeared to address critics who have questioned why Gotbaum traveled alone.
Carol was traveling alone because she wanted her husband, Noah, to look after their children, said Levine, senior rabbi at Congregation Rodeph Sholom, the synagogue where Gotbaum’s memorial service was held.
“She was fiercely independent and private and believed strongly, as did the rest of the family, that she could do this on her own, that she wanted to do this on her own,” Levine said. “So let us go forth and end the judgments.”
The Gotbaum family has hired a team of experts to conduct its own investigation. On Wednesday, they were analyzing Noah Gotbaum’s telephone records and piecing together the sequence of events on Sept. 28, the day his wife died. He made several calls to his wife at the airport and to the airport’s call center.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office said it could be weeks before an official cause of death is determined.
The family is also waiting for the medical examiner to release the rest of Carol Gotbaum’s remains, said Michael Manning, the family’s attorney. The 45-year-old’s heart, brain and parts of her throat were not turned over to the family.

tragic! she was …
tragic! she was let down on so many levels! she should never have been travelling alone; the family friend who was supposed to show up in tucson did not show up, leaving her alone to drink in the bar; she had attempted suicide in the past, was on meds for anxiety and depression. she was trying to get help!
my big question… WHY there is no video surveillance in the holding room? it doesn’t seem right! i truly hope her family gets the answers they need! my prayers go out to them.

This is like the …
This is like the video of police beating a woman at Reagan National Airport. She suffers from brain damage from the beating. How many more travelers need to be beaten by cops at airports on video for us to end police brutality?

If you are a person …
If you are a person of good please do not allow things like this happening in from of you. Don’t allow police killing our citizen in front of you, there were more than 20 citizens there and nobody did anything to stop the crime, she wasn’t commiting any crime for been arrested.

Hmm…no cameras in …
Hmm…no cameras in the holding cell? What about outside it? Can her time of death be pinpointed? The reason I ask is because there is nothing to stop one of those agitated officers from over-handling her in the holding cell. Did she commit suicide or is this a case of manslughter?

well when problems like that happens the best thing to do is call the police, so they have to do their job…. and after it we don’t do anything.. our job is finished.

Hitany how stupid …
Hitany how stupid it sounds that when your security guys knew that she needed help, then what this kind of help did they offer her? I feel so embarrassed to see this video. Can someone tell which airport it happened? According to you she had bunch of problems, does that mean security guys did that right thing? Is that what u want to imply?

It’s interesting …
It’s interesting that witnesses say she was NOT using profanity, but the police say she did. Hmmm.
September 6th, 2008 at 10:42 am
…In some places ( …
…In some places (ie. Canada), victims may have to deal with personal liability for the defendant’s costs – should they loose. (The insurance co. doesn’t scrimp on their defence either.)
I think that everybody would be safer if police & security were a little bit stronger on conflict resolution and less anxious to lock people up. The triggers that are getting people tased and arrested these days are a little too close to the spectrum of ‘normal’ behaviour while under stress.
September 6th, 2008 at 10:42 am
It’s not that …
It’s not that simple. These claims are handed-off to an insurance company with very good lawyers who deal with nothing but false arrest claims. Cops know what to say to cover their and unless you’ve got very reliable witnesses, they will be believed. Meanwhile the victim can wait years for an outcome and be subjected to an invasive examination for discovery, stressful legal meetings, criminal proceedings from the actual incident.

Who are you kidding …
Who are you kidding, she was lawfuly placed under arrest, she resisted.. The officers met her resistance with equal use of force. They didn’t shoot or taser, they mearly did what they had to do to restrain her.
Hey, if you are placed under arrest by a law enforcement officer, comply. Let your slip and fall lawyer do the rest.
September 6th, 2008 at 10:42 am
Who’s kidding? this …
Who’s kidding? this was a disturbed person not a terrorist. All of the security in the world won’t stop a terrorist with a level head and a good plan, so why act like a bunch of lug-heads when ever a traveller screws-up. Passengers are your customers not your enemies. 15 years ago airline staff would bend over backwards to help out a distressed traveller, now they treat you like a piece of meat.
