Do you think that adults losing custody and visitation rights would decrease the amount of child abuse?

Why?

Yes. If the parent who has in the past, or has a personality that would lead to abuse were denied custody and only given supervised visitation then how could they possibly abuse the child. Even if they did something as a trial period. Example: Man & woman divorce because man is an alcoholic or druggie. Once the man "recovers" and that is documented, he is given supervised visitation for 2 years. If he does well with that and shows no signs of being an abuser, then let him have regular visitation.

No. My father is a judge and handles cases of domestic abuse. Child abuse is unfortunately something we find out about after the fact. Something is done once a child is abused. There is really no way we can ensure that it will not happen.
